I took my first training session for my new career this morning. For the first time in a long time I felt that I was amongst a group of people who really cared about what they were doing. It was more enriching than I had expected.
A program director instructing six experienced, and two relatively inexperienced on concerns of conduct, ethics, policy, procedures and legal implications.
It sounds boring but it wasn’t. Time was not wasted on dictation allowing opportunity for an active role. The experienced would tactfully interject with anecdotes evoking both fear and confidence. I even walked away with a great reference to a resource that will help me polish my skills.
I think I’m going to love this job.
hey what’s the new gig?
Direct service provider for the cognitive impaired specializing in community access.
good for you man, that sounds like work that will truly help people. Of course, working for the CSWA might be considered “providing for the cognitive impaired” so you may be more experienced than you realize…
Good luck man, work hard and you will do well.
I worked for over a decade with the ego impaired.
It has enormously expanded my capacity for anger management which is key for this field.
Thanks for the well wishes, Dave.
Good Luck on your new adventure! Are you going to be traveling North this summer?
Thanks Bob, I’m hoping I can make it up for the Sunflower Fest.
Congrats on the new job. The company I work with provides services for MR, BI & CMI. So good luck I know you will do well.
You usually succeed in anything you do!!
Thanks Nancy! I just filled out my I-9 and W-2 today, along with a lot of other paperwork.
Can’t wait to get started!
