Ode to a Dying Spotlight.

Struggled to piece it back together
With novelty gaff tape
Mocking in its absence of tack.

Aged and Dusted grease
a mechanical arthritis.
Unbalanced in it’s abandon.

Shoes and a water bottle hastily attached to counter the weight of a heavy front.

Grateful the show is not as demanding as the neglected instrument.

    Ode to Doing it Right:

    A stagehand Creed
    is an ethic of need
    When doing it shoddy
    may result in someone’s bleed.

    A bit of gaff here
    and a C-clamp there
may get you through the night
    And maybe no one cares

    But come one day
    On a tall scaffolding bay
    a rig may slip
    a tower may tip

As the gear falls like rain
    Big objects can cause pain
    you thank your skills
and the work ethic you maintain

For it could have been worse
You may have needed a nurse
    but thanks to the gaff
you can gather round and laugh
